Confusion is Very Productive in Growth
Another Ram Dass quote.
This one about how the more we learn about ourselves, the less we actually know.
Sometimes, we convince ourselves that we have to know everything. We have to have clear directions, feel absolute certainty, and know exactly who we are.
Ram Dass argues that the conscious path is not about knowing ourselves, because that suggests that there is a self to get to know.
What we are truly seeking, is to know oneness. Is to remember that there is actually no separation as our form will have us believe.
Confusion can be scary. And while it’s a nice thought to say that there is no self and that we don’t have to be certain all the time, it’s almost impossible to remember that at all times.
There will be moments of certainty, where we feel like we are actualized and living authentically, and there will be times of confusion. Days where we can’t tell up from down, left from right, and it feels impossible to differentiate intuition from fear.
Allow yourself to sit with the confusion.
It’s another element of the unknown that makes our human brains go insane with worry.
But allowing ourselves to have contradicting thoughts, confusing ideas, and feel uncertain at times is the gift we need to allow ourselves to keep growing.
When we believe we know everything, we cut ourselves off from being the student. From taking a closer look and asking questions. We begin to identify to closely with these identities and therefore, the growth is inhibited. There is stagnancy in staying the same.
So here’s to being confused sometimes.
Sitting in the conflicting ideas, the unclear path forward, and the discomfort that comes from not having an exact roadmap of where to go and when.
Allow your confusion to bring you the answers you seek, instead of shooing it away while clinging to who you’re used to being.
I wish you the best while you unfold the tapestry of your life that includes the confusion and the clarity as equal forces.
My whole heart,
Lena
